Kama Bistro in LaGrange
Located just steps from the downtown Metra station, Kama Bistro delivers a contemporary take on Indian cuisine in the heart of the Chicago suburbs. With additional locations in Chicago’s West Loop and Wicker Park, it’s clear this concept resonates — and after a recent Friday night visit, I understand why.

A Friday Night Done Right

We met friends for dinner — a lively group of eight — on a bustling Friday evening. The dining room hummed with energy, but we were seated quickly and warmly greeted as soon as everyone arrived.

There’s something about Indian food that makes it perfect for sharing. The bright colors, the aromas, the layers of spice — it invites conversation and passing plates across the table.

Kama strikes that beautiful balance: polished enough for date night, relaxed enough for a group of friends who plan to order half the menu.

Where Tradition Meets a Modern Touch

You’ll find familiar favorites — Tikka Masala, Paneer, Vindaloo, and Tandoori — but the presentation feels refined and intentional.

The sauces are scratch-made, the spice blends skillfully layered, and the kitchen clearly understands restraint. Heat is present, but it never overwhelms. Each dish feels thoughtfully composed — something I really appreciate in contemporary Indian cuisine.

The menu also includes many gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options, making it an easy choice for groups with varying preferences and dietary concerns.

The Tandoor: Smoky, Charred Perfection

If you want the most authentic experience, order from the tandoor charcoal grill.
That subtle smokiness — that “charcoal kiss” — simply can’t be replicated.

Prime Ribeye Tikka & Garlic Naan

Prime Ribeye Tikka

The Prime Ribeye Tikka was a standout for our table. Tender slices of steak seasoned with garam masala, served alongside mashed potatoes and a vibrant house-made chimichurri.
It’s rich without being heavy. Smoky without overpowering. Generous enough to share — and we did.

My Order: Tandoori Mixed Chicken Grill

I opted for the Tandoori Mixed Chicken Grill, and it did not disappoint.
Malai tikka, chicken thigh harissa, kabab — each preparation distinct, but unified by that beautiful tandoor char. The chicken thighs were the star: juicy, deeply seasoned, and perfectly cooked.

Across the table, Lamb Chop Masala and Vindaloo quickly became favorites. The vindaloo delivered a confident kick of heat (adjustable, to your own preferred heat level), while the lamb chops were tender, flavorful, and expertly balanced.

Spinach Masala also deserves a mention — herbaceous, warming, and thoughtfully spiced.

Do Not Skip the Sides

Cumin Rice
Indian cuisine is about the sauces — and you’ll want something to soak up every last drop.
Order the:
    • Garlic naan
    • Cumin rice
    • Crispy potatoes
Trust me on this.

Cocktails That Keep Up with the Spice

My husband and I arrived a bit early and grabbed seats at the bar (parking can be tricky here on a Friday night). A dirty martini with blue cheese olives set the tone — cold, briny, perfectly executed. His old fashioned was also executed well.

Our table also sampled the Mango Martini, Goan Sour, and Pomegranate Mojito. Each cocktail was bright and refreshing — a smart pairing for spice-forward dishes.

The wine list is concise but effective, featuring bold Cabernet Sauvignons that complement lamb and ribeye beautifully, along with white and sparkling options.

Atmosphere & Service

Even on a full Friday night, service remained attentive and composed.

Water glasses were refilled frequently (necessary with vindaloo on the table), cocktails replenished seamlessly, and the pacing of courses felt unrushed.

The dining room leans into a date-night vibe — dim lighting, modern fixtures, comfortable seating — but the moderate noise level keeps it approachable and fun for groups.
It’s the kind of place you could just as easily visit for an anniversary as you could for a spontaneous Friday dinner with friends.

Pro Tip: Happy Hour

If you can swing it, snag a seat at the bar for Happy Hour, Monday through Friday from 4–6pm.

Several popular appetizers are half off, and there’s a discounted cocktail list — making it one of the better happy hour options in La Grange.

Final Thoughts

Kama Bistro successfully blends tradition with refinement, delivering contemporary Indian cuisine that feels both bold and approachable.

If you’re looking for one of the best Indian restaurants in La Grange — whether for date night, a group dinner, or simply a craving for something vibrant and flavorful — Kama delivers.

And as someone who loves a table full of shared plates, smoky spice, and a really good cocktail to match… I’ll absolutely be back.
